Cross-generational development potential in the St. Gallen Rhine Valley

In St. Margrethen, where HIAG was founded in 1876 as a timber trading company, Stadler Rail’s competence centre for double-decker trains now forms a cross-generational hub for the economic development of the St. Gallen Rhine Valley. HIAG transferred the construction rights for the approximately 70'000 m² site to Stadler Rail in 2017.

Stadler has made long-term plans for St. Margrethen and will generate economic momentum for the whole region over several generations with the new competence centre for KISS double-decker multiple-unit trains. Stadler Rail would also like to build tramways and other railway vehicles for the Swiss and international markets in St. Margrethen. For Stadler Rail, the selection of this site is seen as a clear commitment to the Swiss workplace. The factory in St. Margrethen is expected to enhance the Group’s competitiveness on international markets in the long term thanks to substantial efficiency benefits.
