A nationally and internationally renowned centre for modern recycling technologies with a focus on electric mobility is being built on the Papieri site in Biberist (SO). As the owner of the site, HIAG is delighted with the great interest shown by innovative companies.

With the emerging Circular Centre for Electric Mobility (KEM), a strong innovation ecosystem is taking shape on the Papieri site. Companies such as Librec AG, which recycles up to 10,000 tonnes of lithium-ion batteries per year, and Libattion AG, which creates new modules from used battery cells, are already setting new standards in the field of recycling.

The arrival of cleantech company Grensol and the Swiss Battery Technology Centre Solothurn, a subsidiary of Switzerland Innovation Park Biel/Bienne, which plans to develop industrial solutions for dismantling e-batteries from 2026, marks another milestone. Grensol AG, which has won several sustainability awards, is making another important contribution to a sustainable circular economy with its innovative recycling technology for waste from used cars.

HIAG sees this dynamic development as confirmation of its long-standing strategy. ‘The Papieri site offers ideal conditions for establishing a cluster such as in the cleantech sector. The site has excellent transport links and is already equipped with a high-performance industrial infrastructure,’ explains Dominik Ulrich, project developer at HIAG. At the same time, the establishment of innovative companies will help to create attractive jobs for highly qualified specialists and further enhance the appeal of the location.

HIAG's long-term development of the Papieri site aims to create a mixed-use, vibrant neighbourhood that will provide valuable economic and social impetus for the entire region. While the eastern part is reserved for commercial and industrial use, the western third will be developed into a publicly accessible area with apartments, restaurants and attractive open spaces. This careful zoning ensures sustainable development and the coexistence of a wide variety of uses.

HIAG is proud to be able to make an active contribution to reindustrialisation in conjunction with future-oriented innovations and technologies with the Papieri site and looks forward to the next steps together with strong partners from business and research.
