HIAG is active in the areas of property development, portfolio and asset management as well as transactions. But who are the people behind HIAG? With the new series "3 questions to", a HIAG employee is introduced every month.

Valentin Stahel works in Zurich as an Energy & Sustainability Project Developer.

Describe your job at HIAG: What are you responsible for? What are your tasks?
I am responsible for the development, planning and realisation of economical, sustainable and future-oriented energy concepts: this applies to our development projects as well as existing properties/areas. I also make sure that our construction projects have the lowest possible grey emissions, that biodiversity is promoted and that sustainable mobility solutions are considered and implemented. With its cost-efficient and sustainable solutions, HIAG increases the attractiveness of its assets and ensures that its own sustainability goals are consistently implemented.

What do you particularly like about your work at HIAG?
My motivation is to reduce HIAG's emissions through my work and to have a positive impact on the environment and the sites. The developments of the large and complex sites are particularly exciting. Sustainability has to be considered holistically for these and this offers opportunities for solutions that bring great economic and ecological added value for the site and its users. For example, synergies between industrial waste heat and geothermal probes on a site can be used to provide CO2-neutral heating and cooling at low cost and with optimum comfort.

What are the biggest challenges in your day-to-day work?
Sustainability should and must be taken into account over the entire life cycle of a property or site. This is complex, because in addition to the classic environmental issues such as CO2, environmental protection, etc., social and economic issues must also be taken into account. This makes the work challenging, but also exciting and varied and gives me fascinating insights into different areas.
